booked.

He is on camera very little and does two jobs that matter. The first is
logistical and social: he gets Harry through markets where a foreigner with a
camera draws a crowd, handles the payments when Harry is being pressed from all
sides, and is the reason Harry can keep filming at all in
[Lagos](/places/lagos.md).

The second is that he is the source for most of the hard numbers in the cluster.
The average wage of 40,000 naira a month — about $27 — comes from him, as does
the explanation of why the cities are filling up from the villages, and the
account of how Nigerians actually get cash: ATM withdrawals capped at 20,000 or
40,000 naira a day depending on the bank, so anything larger goes through an
agent who takes a commission and hands over cash against a bank transfer or a
card machine.

He is also responsible for the most painful few minutes in the cluster: in
[Kano](/places/kano.md) he entered Harry into a Dambe bout without warning, and
Harry was knocked out. Harry declines to blame him for it, repeatedly and
unprompted.
