# $100 Haircut in LAHORE, PAKISTAN 🇵🇰

Four hours in a high-end men's grooming salon in [Lahore](/places/lahore.md)
with [Mac](/people/mac.md) — eleven till three, which surprises Harry as much as
anyone. The package runs a fade, a full clean shave, a facial in about seven
stages, and a manicure and pedicure, and he has had none of it before beyond a
haircut.

Two things are worth carrying out of it. **The hygiene**: every tool is soaked in
disinfectant between uses, and he calls it the cleanest barber he has been to
anywhere in the world. And **the price**: 17,400 rupees, roughly $95 (from video
– unverified — he doesn't make clear whether that covers both of them), for four
hours of work by several people.

He is also direct about why he did it — the best available in the city, content
for the channel, and treating themselves after a hard fortnight — and about the
gender question, saying plainly that grooming treatments should be as normal for
men as for anyone and that he intends to keep having them.

*Obs: the salon is not named. The video is a full treatment package with the
venue credited in the description, which under this bundle's rule puts it in the
same class as a linked salon; only the process and prices are recorded.
Auto-generated subtitles; ambiguous amounts carry the unverified marker.*

## Key moments

- [03:16] The haircut: a fade up the sides, nothing off the top. His barber has
been cutting for four and a half years.
- [09:05] **The clean shave**, and the technique behind it — a hot towel first to
soften the hair and lift its direction, then layered creams and oils, then a
  freshly disinfected razor.
- [13:13] **The disinfection**, which he keeps returning to: tools soaked between
every use, more thoroughly than anywhere he has been.
- [15:22] His barber's summary of the country, unprompted: Pakistan is safe now,
ten years ago it might not have been, and people here look after visitors.
- [17:24] **The facial**, stage by stage: cleanser, toner, a deep clean brushed
on, an enzyme peel, an exfoliator, then a clay mask over the whole face
including the eyelids, peeled off in one piece.
- [21:41] Chai brought to the chair, which prompts his verdict for the trip:
**Pakistani chai is better than English tea**, and he says he knows how that
  sounds.
- [24:32] Manicure and pedicure together, with a sea salt, vitamin E and oil
scrub, and a good deal of dead skin removed by machine.
- [25:05] **On men and grooming**: he expects some viewers to think it isn't
something men do, says it should be perfectly normal, and that he will keep
  doing it.
- [29:43] **17,400 rupees, about $95** (from video – unverified), for four hours.
His justification is stated in three parts and none of them is that it was
  cheap.
- [06:28] Food notes from the chair: **nihari** is the Lahore dish he still
hasn't tried, and cheese paratha remains the thing he hunts for.
- [07:29] **Alcohol** is not legal for Muslims here; he mentions a room in his
hotel where it can be had (from video – unverified — the transcript garbles the
  word).
