# My Brothers Wedding in Colombia 🇨🇴

The event the whole [Colombia](/countries/colombia.md) trip was built around.
Harry's brother marries in [Barranquilla](/places/barranquilla.md), and the video
is mostly the day before it — a hotel gym, a pool, a facial — with the wedding
itself cut down to highlights.

**That restraint is the most interesting thing in it**, and he explains it twice.
He says at the start that he will film some of it because his brother wants a
record, but that he wants to actually be at it; and he says at the end that this
is why he doesn't normally vlog things like this — **you should separate vlogs
and personal life** — and that he made this one because so many people asked. It
is the plainest statement of that principle anywhere in the bundle, and it
answers a question left open on
[don't point the camera at private moments](/tips/dont-film-private-moments.md).

What survives as travel information is the shape of a Colombian wedding: a
4 p.m. ceremony, a buffet, DJs, reception games, and an hour at 10 p.m. called
**crazy hour** that nobody will explain to him beforehand.

The tail of the video is a chartered boat day out of
[Cartagena](/places/cartagena.md) a few days later.

## Key moments

- [00:00] In Barranquilla for the wedding, staying at a hotel with a gym he has
  already been using.
- [01:01] His brother, asked how nervous he is out of ten, answers under one.
- [02:03] A workout with his brother and the best man.
- [03:36] The pool and jacuzzi, empty apart from the pool attendant.
- [05:11] The plan for the night: ceremony at four, buffet, drinks, DJs — and
crazy hour at ten, which nobody will describe to him.
- [05:43] He would rather not know, so he sees it fresh.
- [06:15] A spa treatment included in the stay, unexpectedly: reflexology, a
facial, or hydration and paraffin wax. He takes the facial.
- [10:04] The therapist's recommendation for where to go in Colombia: San
Andrés, an island with what she calls a sea of seven colours.
- [12:22] Why he won't vlog the whole wedding — he wants to enjoy it, and the
footage will get worse as the night goes on.
- [12:53] The ceremony.
- [14:25] Reception games: which of the couple talks more, is more responsible,
keeps secrets better, tips more generously, cooks better.
- [15:39] A tradition described as Lithuanian — the groom carries the bride,
something is broken underfoot, and the number of pieces is the number of
  children.
- [17:13] The camera taken off him by friends to record messages while he isn't
  looking.
- [17:48] A few days later: a boat day around the islands with the group who
  came out from the UK.
- [18:19] The boat, thirteen to fifteen people and three crew, for the whole day.
- [19:22] Vendors coming out to the boat to sell lunch — pushier on the water
  than on land.
- [19:54] Past Bocagrande, the mini-Miami skyline, and naval ships.
- [20:55] A party anchorage the subtitles render as Cholón — boats in a line,
people drinking waist-deep in the sea, families too.
- [21:26] The closing statement: he doesn't vlog this sort of thing because
vlogs and personal life should stay separate, and he made an exception because
  people asked.
