was true.

What he actually does in [Kano](/places/kano.md) is watch Dambe — traditional
bare-knuckle boxing, once used to train men for war — and get signed up for a
bout by his guide. He had never boxed. He was knocked out cleanly, with a cut
lip, and spends the last three minutes refusing to blame anyone for it.
