# Incredible PETRA tour by LOCAL BEDOUINS 🇯🇴

Part of Harry's Jordan vlog series. Harry and his friend [Mac](/people/mac.md)
drive five minutes from their hotel in Wadi Musa to [Petra](/places/petra.md),
arriving just before 7am to get ahead of the crowds. Entry is covered by their
[Jordan Pass](/tips/get-the-jordan-pass.md), which Harry calls one of the main
reasons to buy it. After running the gauntlet of persistent horse-ride and
guide touts at the entrance, they walk in as the landscape opens up, hike with
a local guide to a viewpoint above the Treasury for tea, explore the theatre
and cave dwellings beyond, get invited by Bedouins to stay the night in their
camp, and finish with a Jordanian buffet lunch before heading back around 2pm
— roughly 16,000 steps in.

## Itinerary

Wadi Musa (hotel) → Petra entrance at ~6:50am → Treasury → viewpoint climb →
theatre and rock-cut tombs → Bedouin camp → buffet lunch → back to the hotel.

## Key moments

- [00:00] Breakfast done, five-minute drive from the hotel; Petra opens at 6am
  and they arrive around 6:50.
- [01:36] Entry with the Jordan Pass — otherwise a day ticket costs around
  40–50 (from video – unverified).
- [02:06] Horse handlers at the entrance push hard for a ride; the touts set
  the tone for the day.
- [03:06] Ten minutes' walk in, the landscapes turn incredible — though Harry
admits it feels commercialised, "a little bit like Disneyland".
- [04:38] A steep, proper climb to a photo viewpoint above the Treasury —
harder than expected with camera gear.
- [05:38] Tea with a view at the top; they paid 15 JD for two for the guided
climb, which Harry judges worth it for the peace away from the crowds.
- [06:12] Beyond the Treasury: the theatre, rock carvings like small houses,
and donkeys for hire; they explore without a tour guide.
- [07:43] Bedouins offer coffee and tea and invite them to stay the night in
  a cave at their camp.
- [09:19] Buffet lunch of Jordanian food — 17 with drinks (from video –
unverified) — including umm ali, a bread-pudding-like dessert Harry rates.
- [11:23] Leaving just as hordes of tour buses arrive; they skipped the
  Monastery, maybe for tomorrow.
