# UK tourist travels to KARACHI, PAKISTAN 🇵🇰

The first video of Harry's 40+ video [Pakistan](/countries/pakistan.md) series,
and a pure travel day: he and [Mac](/people/mac.md) fly out of Amman —
[Jordan](/countries/jordan.md) in the rain, a country Harry says has become one
of his favourites — and reach [Karachi](/places/karachi.md) at 3am via Sharjah.

The useful part is the friction before departure. Pakistan issues no visa on
arrival, so both had applied in advance; the airline still held them at check-in
for about ninety minutes while it phoned the Pakistani mission to confirm the
approvals, and only a delayed flight saved them. Harry's advice out of it is
blunt: allow far more time at the airport than you think you need — see
[prepare before you land](/tips/prepare-before-you-land.md). Immigration in
Karachi, by contrast, waved them through in minutes.

He arrives saying openly that he knows very little about the country and has no
idea what to expect, which is the frame the whole series is built on.

## Itinerary

Amman → Sharjah (Air Arabia, about 3 hours) → four-hour layover → Karachi
(about 2 hours), landing around 3am → airport ATM and a late-night snack stall
→ 20-minute drive into the city → Airbnb in Clifton.

## Key moments

- [00:00] Leaving Amman in heavy rain. The flight, Amman–Karachi via Sharjah,
cost around $230–240 (from video – unverified) for roughly eight hours of
  travelling.
- [01:02] **Visas: no visa on arrival for Pakistan.** Harry's took about five
days to process, Mac's about ten. Apply well ahead.
- [02:04] Ninety minutes stuck at check-in while the airline verified the
already-approved visas with the Pakistani mission; they nearly missed the
flight and were saved by a delay. Security also found Harry's drone and was
unhappy about it, though he was leaving the country with it.
- [03:11] Airport food in Amman — a smoked salmon bagel and a za'atar croissant,
the meal about 5 Jordanian dinar (roughly $8).
- [05:20] Sharjah, and a four-hour layover they lose track of entirely while
  editing.
- [06:53] Accommodation booked days late as usual: a two-bedroom Airbnb in
Clifton, Karachi, $50 a night split two ways.
- [09:01] Landing at 3am. Immigration and security were quick and friendly —
Harry credits the contrast with Jordan's very thorough exit checks.
- [10:35] Cash from the airport ATM: 10,000 rupees, about £50 at the time. One
of his bank cards failed and a second worked.
- [13:08] Into the city. Two things he notices immediately — no seat belts
fitted in the back of the car, and traffic driving on the left.
