# Exposing the Human Trafficking Capital of the World 🇨🇳 🇱🇦

A day trip across the Mekong from Thailand into the **Golden Triangle Special
Economic Zone** in [Laos](/countries/laos.md) — an enclave run in Chinese, priced
in yuan, and reported by law enforcement bodies to host scam compounds where
trafficked people are held and forced to defraud others.

Harry does not get inside a compound and says so. What he films is the town
around them: a casino, a half-built strip of skyscrapers in jungle, cars with no
number plates, and a nightlife district. What he learns comes from a man he meets
in the street who asks not to be filmed.

He refuses to say most of it on camera until he is back across the border.
