Lebanon

Harry's observations from Lebanon โ€” the dual-rate currency chaos, Armenian-Lebanese food, and the seaside charm of Batroun.

Lebanon

Harry travelled Lebanon in 2022, basing himself for a week in Batroun, his favourite city in the country.

From My Favourite City In Lebanon! ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ง

  • Money and costs: Lebanon runs on two exchange rates. A restaurant bill of 2,600,000 lira is ~$1,700 at the official rate but only about $80 at the black-market rate โ€” so change money at the black-market rate and pay in lira, never in dollars at face value. Harry planned a separate video on it because it confuses every visitor.
  • Accommodation: a new-build three-bedroom apartment in Batroun cost him about $50 a night (from video โ€“ unverified).
  • Food: Armenian-Lebanese fusion food is a highlight โ€” fattoush-style salads, hummus topped with crispy meat, and above all the cherry kebab. Eating out is easy and sometimes cheaper than self-catering.
  • Infrastructure: wi-fi speeds are poor, a real drawback for remote workers.
