Wadi Rum
Jordan's desert valley, which Harry films as Mars — bubble pods rather than tents, jeep tours and meals included, and nights cold enough that he warns you twice.
Wadi Rum
The desert valley in southern Jordan that Harry films throughout as another planet — his running line is that they are on Mars.
He rates it as high as anywhere he has been: one of his favourite places in Jordan, he says, if not in the world.
The bundle’s coverage of Wadi Rum is thin, and honestly so: it appears at the start of a video that is mostly about Aqaba, by which point he and his companions have already been there half a day. What is below is what that morning records.
Staying there
- Pods rather than tents — sealed, transparent-fronted rooms in the desert, which he is careful to call glamping and not camping.
- The price includes a jeep tour, dinner and breakfast, which he flags as good value for what arrives with it. He gives a nightly figure on camera but the subtitles lose the number; what is recoverable is that three of them shared one pod and the split made it comfortable.
- The trade-off he names: proper camping has an advantage the pods don’t — you can actually see the stars.
- Breakfast was pastries, eggs and coffee.
What to bring
It gets very cold in the desert, and he says so as a direct warning: bring a coat. It is the second time in the cluster that the temperature has caught them out — they had already bought jackets in Amman for exactly this.
Harry’s tips
- Take the package. The jeep tour and both meals coming with the room is most of what makes it worth the price.
- Share the pod. Three of them in one is what made it affordable.
- Bring a coat, and expect a real drop after dark.
